Try this to diagnose soundcard problems: From a terminal window run system-config-soundcard. The graphical soundcard window should come up. Press the "play sound" button as usual. Any messages from the config program is now visible in the terminal window. Copy that text (drag over it), and paste into a Google search. For the SoundBlaster Audigy I got this: amixer: Unknown playback setup 'on'.. The fix is easy. Launch KMix, go to the Advanced settings or the Output Tab. Disable Audigy Analog/Digital Output. In KMix for Fedora Core 3 this setting is called "Audiav Analog/Diait" (the text cuts off there).
